Los Angeles Times: Latest forecast suggests 'Godzilla El Niño' may be coming to California

It's been a while
So let's see if we can't put this into perspective. After having endured the worst drought in a thousand or so years (and there isn't any clear indication that the current one is going to end any time soon), we are now looking straight down the barrel of perhaps the biggest El Nino in, well, a very long while. We certainly do live in a time of interesting (and extreme) weather events.

Which I guess will mean powerful storms, lots of rain that will flow into storm sewers and percolate elsewhere (whatever that nonsensical concept actually means), along with the usual debris flows, mudslides and mayhem.

Oh, and countless news vans from such illustrious and worthy journalistic enterprises as Channel 7 Eyewitless News. Folks who only show up here when there are either mudslides or child molester sightings.

This is what the Los Angeles Times says we have in store (link).

No word yet if City Hall will end its water use fines should these El Nino predictions turn out to be true. My guess is they will have to be asked more than once.

California Reform Sex Offender Laws president Janice Bellucci is back!

Dear enchanting Janice
The hero of convicted sex offenders everywhere is back in the area, working hard to make sure that her creepy little pals have the right to do all of the important things that they so need to do.

Like hang around play grounds, schoolyards and pretty much anyplace else small children are likely to gather. All of which, according to the California Supreme Court, are Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms convicted sex criminals must be allowed to enjoy in this state.

As we all should know by now, Janice Bellucci's lawyerly skills were enough to beat back Sierra Madre's sex offender ordinance a few years back (link). Which, and as we saw with this city's most recent sex offender disaster, has pretty much left our already challenged law enforcement agency completely helpless in these matters (link).

Of course, she recently took out voter approved Jessica's Law in the California Supreme Court (link) as well. Quite a feat if you think about it. Apparently in California the civil rights of sex criminals are of far greater legal importance than those of small children.

And now, according to the Arcadia Weekly, she has set her unhappy gaze upon the Peacock Veil (link):

Sex Offenders Launch Series of Lawsuits Challenging Residency Restrictions A federal lawsuit has been filed challenging a sex offender ordinance in the City of Arcadia that severely restricts where sex offenders (“registered citizens”) may live. This is the first in a series of lawsuits to be filed in Los Angeles County after the CA Supreme Court decided that residency restrictions for some sex offenders violate the federal constitution.

“Arcadia’s residency restrictions place more than ninety percent of Arcadia’s residential property in ‘Residential Exclusion Zones’ effectively ‘banishing’ registered citizens from living in that city,” stated California Reform Sex Offender Laws president Janice Bellucci. “The law in Arcadia violates the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments as well as the Ex Post Facto Clause of the United States Constitution.

The legal challenge asserts that Arcadia’s ordinance imposes burdens on the families of registered citizens, does not protect children, fails to provide sufficient notice to registered citizens, and is “a politically motivated act… in response to popular sentiments, based upon misinformation, which seeks retribution against ‘a socially outcast minority.’”

“Modern day unsubstantiated myths conjure up the stereotype of a registered citizen as a continuing threat to society and children,” stated Bellucci. “State and federal government statistics officially debunk these myths.”

Quite a contribution to civilization Ms. Bellucci is making. I'm sure God has a very special place set aside for our dear Janice once her time here had come to an end.
