Gemster: Not expected to sign the petition.
(Mod: Much of what you are about to read here was taken from an email I received yesterday. I added some material from the Save the Arcadia Highlands website as well. Everybody needs to get behind this one, even if you don't happen to live there.)

Last Thursday the Saving Arcadia Ballot Initiative was published in the Arcadia Weekly. It is now legal for this petition to be circulated and all the necessary signatures collected.

Any and all residents registered to vote in Arcadia can sign this petition. However, anyone can help. The fight against grotesque mansionization does not stop at any city line. Once the necessary amount of signatures have been gathered the Saving Arcadia Ballot Initiative will then be placed on the ballot for the April of 2016 election.

This initiative is important as it establishes long needed and necessary development standards for home construction in the City of Arcadia.

We have seen property values decline on an average of 15% in Arcadia in the last year (Core Logic July 2014 to July 2015). This while in San Marino, Monrovia and Sierra Madre, property values have increased. In fact, Sierra Madre experienced a 20% increase in property values according to the data from Core Logic. Last year, Sierra Madre had a moratorium on demolition permits and new water meters. Sierra Madre has come out strong on preservation and their positive property value increases are their reward.

Anyone in Arcadia who wants to save their views, privacy and property values should sign this petition. You can sign the petition anytime Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 33 E. Huntington Dr. Also you can contact Saving Arcadia at savingarcadiateam@gmail.com to set up an appointment and have someone travel to your house and get your signature.

Anyone 18 years and older can circulate a petition. You do not have to be a resident of Arcadia, just someone who wants to stop the scourge of mansionization from destroying our communities. Stop it in Arcadia and you help stop it everywhere. We are looking for more volunteers to go door to door.

Also, we are collecting donations. For a $20 donation you can get an attractive yard sign that anyone who loves Arcadia will be proud to display in their front yard.

We hope you will all join this effort to save our views, our privacy and our property values, and restore Arcadia as a “Community of Homes”.

Attached is a chart comparing the allowable gross floor area currently in Arcadia to what San Marino, Sierra Madre and Monrovia allow, and what would be allowed under the proposed initiative.

Also attached is a chart comparing Arcadia’s current zoning codes to the proposed initiative.
