Return the vote |
However, there is still a way that we can get representation on the Board of Education, and it involves a petition. Kim Kenne, the new District 1 representative for the Board of Education, had to resign her "at-large" seat in order to run for her new "subdistrict" place at the table. That "at-large" seat is now empty and needs to be filled. This can be done one of two ways, by Board appointment or through a vote of the people. As you can see if you (click here), by submitting a petition to the Board of Education asking that a mail-in vote be held, we can make the option of an elected Board of Ed rep happen. Meaning we could finally have the opportunity to elect one of our own.
I have posted below a copy of the petition that we will be circulating this weekend. Of course, there are only a relative few of us doing this, which makes the odds rather daunting. And with our City government currently obsessed with raising our taxes and water rates, they will have little time or desire for things like protecting our basic voting rights. We'll have to do this ourselves.
If you could, please print out this page and sign the petition below. Ask the other registered voters in your household to do so as well, along with neighbors and friends. We will be presenting these signed petititons to the Pasadena Unified Board of Education on Tuesday evening.
A couple of additional things. You cannot ask for signatures on school property. You will get yourself in trouble if you do so, and who needs that? Petitions need to be returned to us by NOON on Tuesday, March 12. Halcyon Koerber is coordinating the collection of these petitions, and you can get in touch with her at this e-mail address - halcyonkoerber@gmail.com. You can also call me with any questions. My cell # is 626 716-0011. Many thanks!
