Where oh where is the sign? |
As I am certain you all know, 1 Carter has been one of the real bones of contention in the fight against mansionization in Sierra Madre for quite a long while. This has been going on for around a decade, with nothing having ever been built there. Not one single solitary house. This despite the blessings of the disastrous 2004 City Council, perhaps the worst this city ever produced. It was they who first threw this once wooded hillside open for all kinds of predatory development. The rest is history.
But that hardly means all such efforts ever stopped. A sign announcing a public hearing at the Planning Commission on August 20th for a starter castle at 11 Nathaniel Carter Terrace went up just a few days ago. The proposed building site is way up towards the end of the drive, so it would be an Arcadia-style overlord castle that will be visible upon the mountain top, and seen from all over the city.
What is hysterical is this sign is hidden behind a pillar. It is not visible if you're heading up Baldwin to Carter. You will see it if you drive from the east on Carter to Baldwin, but only a relatively few people actually go that way.
This is what you'll see if you are driving up to the top of Baldwin Avenue, by far the busiest route up there. It's a Peek-A-Boo Sign, right? By law that sign is supposed to be easily visible to the public. Can you see it?
So here is what you will find hidden behind that pillar. It is something that is kind of important.
And what exactly is said on the Peek-A-Boo Sign? It is the legally required notification of a Planning Commission hearing regarding the building of a proposed big bumping overlord McMansion, placed high above us all. Carefully secreted from public view by our very own city employees. Or at least so it would seem. With perhaps a little help from a concerned developer? Also quite possible.
Here is another question. Why does the Peek-A-Boo Sign say "Development Services Department?" Wasn't the name of that one changed? To something along the lines of "Planning & Community Preservation Department" perhaps? Then they hired some used SCAG-style redevelopment dude from Pasadena to run it?
Yeah. Pretty sure that's it.
Yeah. Pretty sure that's it.
Maybe they'll be talking about One Carter at this event?
Here is an interesting invitation to a gala affair that will be held in a faraway land.
$40 billion dollars did you say? My, wouldn't some people downtown love to get a swinging chunk of that action. This is the link to the official website. And here is one event you won't want to miss.
Is anyone from Development Services (sic) going? If so, will they be getting their $40 billion dollar development services freak on?
