Who Actually Controls The Arcadia's Best Blog? The Answer Could Surprise You

Win, Place or Sho Tay?
Way back on June 25th we had the temerity to post an article here that asked this question: Is the "Arcadia's Best" Blog In the Pocket of Development and Government Interests? (link). The assumption being Chamber of Commerce headman Scott Hettrick, who is also widely regarded to be the boss of that dicey journalistic enterprise, only cares for those opinions that favor Arcadia's big house money establishment.

The impetus behind that article? I was what I thought was an innocent question, one that I asked Scott Hettrick on the, you got it, Arcadia's Best blog. I mean, why not go right to the source to get the information you need to get a better understanding of the situation? And what was it that I wanted to know, and had the nerve to ask so important a personage as Mr. Hettrick? The inquiry went something like this:

"Question for you Scott. How much does Arcadia City Hall funding for the Chamber of Commerce you're so intimately involved with influence what you write on this blog?"

Fair question, right? As you probably know by now, that Chamber of Commerce is given a ton of taxpayer dough to by the Arcadia City Council to run its charming events and quaint seasonal celebrations. Here is an actual City of Arcadia document that identifies the large sums of dough provided to that organization and its head, Scott Hettrick.

That is a lot of taxpayer cash, right? You'd figure that Scott, as the head of that Chamber of Commerce, would know who exactly butters his bread, and conceivably could favor the opinions of the folks sending all that money his way.

And what better place for him to show his abundant gratitude than on the Arcadia's Best blog?

Scott Hettrick, however, was hardly amused by my question, and said so in several fairly lengthy screeds on the Arcadia's Best blog. Here is a portion of one of them.

Now I might be many things, but lazy? I put a lot of effort into this daily investigative blog, and while I might not have always figured out everything needed to reach a satisfactory conclusion, I don't give up. I keep coming back. We are persistent here. And there in no better way to energize the mighty investigative powers of The Tattler than to go and act like the kind of ridiculous arse Hettrick did in his above statement.

So today I am quite proud to say I have come up with the answer to that questions asked on The Tattler more than a month ago. Here is the smoking gun:

You see that? It appears that the Arcadia's Best blog does not belong to Scott Hettrick after all. It could be he just works there and likely does as he is told. Rather it is under the financial thumb of Arcadia City Councilmember Sho Tay.

Which is likely why Arcadia's Best bashes resident organizations like Save the Arcadia Highlands, or those who have legally challenged the Arcadia City Council's rather nasty Brown Act problems. Not to mention the campaign to recall McMansion loving faithless elected officials like Sho Tay.

And don't get me started on GemCoins and John Wuo. So much for any journalistic objectivity at Arcadia's Best.

Case closed.
