Have the Passionists changed their reasons for cramming 42 McMansions into Mater Dolorosa's 'meadows?'

Mod: Perhaps justifiably fearing that their Sierra Madre turnout for tonight's Planning Commission hearing at City Hall might not be impressive enough, the Passionists and their partners at New Urban West are now attempting to recruit targeted individuals from Pasadena and other area cities to attend. Here is the postcard they have sent out:

Of course, this card has been sent to folks who will not be able to vote on the Monastery McMansion question in Sierra Madre once it hits the ballot, but they're hoping it doesn't come to that. Floating some out-of-town bodies into Sierra Madre City Hall tonight at 7PM for a chinwag with the Planning Commission being a way they hope to achieve their temporal real estate ambitions.

But here is another question. A reason for concern given on this postcard claims that attending a public meeting in a city they don't live in will "... help us to realize an opportunity and bring an end to a serious threat to our ability to minister to the spiritual needs of this region in the future."

Doesn't that contradict just a little the justification the Passionists have been claiming to a Sierra Madre audience on a public relations website? That the purpose of this mega-million dollar development is to fund the retirement of aged Passionist priests and brothers (link)?

There are also those ministries in such overseas locales as India, of course. Alluded to in that above passage, and elsewhere. But not the postcard.

There might not be a free lunch, but you can get dinner!

Apparently another way to get people out to tonight's shindig is to offer them some free chopper at The Only Place In Town. Let me ask you this, could you be bought for a cheeseburger and a soft drink?

Maybe you should just show up and get your slider, no matter where you stand on this issue. Tell them that blabby Facebook Bob sent you, or something. Or better yet, RSVP to carlyk@newurbanwest.com .
