Famed Historian: Putin Might Have Miscalculated in Ukraine Because He Listened to Trump (Political Flarelink): There is now consensus around the globe and, surely, in the Kremlin, that Vladimir Putin badly miscalculated, both on the strength of his military, and the strong unity that NATO still possesses when it comes to fending off Russia.
So, how did
Putin, the master global strategist, miscalculate so badly? One historian believes that it might’ve been because he listened to too much
Trump… (Which isn’t good for anyone who plans to calculate anything.)
Anne Applebaum, the Pulitzer Prize winning historian believes that Putin might have believed that Trump had driven a thicker wedge through NATO:

Putin was listening to
Trump’s denunciations of
NATO and he imagined
NATO was permanently divided and wouldn’t be able to unite again. I think he didn’t count on what the sight of tanks rolling across a
European country would do to people in
Germany, people in
Italy, people in

United States."
There is also the fact that we’ve been lulled into thinking that wars are only fought against people of other races. Seeing a nation comprised of white people invade a nation of white people was impossible for Europe or the United States to ignore.
It reminds everybody of a part of the
European past that we hoped would never come back and
NATO was encouraged to prevent. You have seen a really remarkable shift all across
Europe as
Europeans do now what should have been done some months ago, which is to reinforce and rearm
Ukraine.
