Mark Robinson has doubled down on comments where he called members of the LGBT community “filth” despite calls for him to resign.
“There’s no reason anybody anywhere in
America should be telling any child about transgenderism, homosexuality, any of that filth,”
Robinson told an audience in June at the
Asbury Baptist church. “And yes, I called it filth. And if you don’t like it that I called it filth, come see me and I’ll explain it to you.” But amid the calls for
Robinson to resign, he has at least one very vocal and public supporter, namely evangelist
Franklin Graham.
In a post to his
Facebook page this Sunday,
Graham praised
Robinson for standing up to “woke cancel culture.”
In regards to Robinson’s comments specifically, Graham declared: “I totally agree.”
“The Lt. Governor said the threats and outcry are part of a strategy of intimidation to try to get people to not speak out about their own beliefs on these topics, and he is right,” Graham wrote. “Thank you Mark Robinson for having the guts to stand up and tell the truth. God bless you!”
Robinson is standing by his words. When asked by
WRAL in an interview last week if he would use different words if he had a chance to make his comments again, he replied, “Absolutely not.”
“That is in reference to introducing [LGBT issues] to children in the classroom,” Robinson told WRAL, adding that “in our public schools, it has no place.”
