Mod: So what is the next episode in the ever increasing catalog of Trump disasters? Military insurrection? Are our Armed Forces now losing all respect for their inept Commander In Chief?
Sailors yell profanities at Trump’s acting Navy Secretary while he trashes fired Captain (
Raw Story link): Angry sailors can be heard yelling profanities at
Trump acting
Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly while he trashed their former captain who got fired for sending out a dire warning about the threat
COVID-19 posed to the
USS Theodore Roosevelt.
In a recording of
Modly’s speech posted by
Task & Purpose, an angry sailor can be heard shouting, “What the f*ck?!” after
Modly described former
USS Theodore Roosevelt Capt. Brett Crozier as “stupid” and “naive.” Another sailor can be heard yelling, “He was trying to help us!” after
Modly complained that
Crozier’s actions had created a big controversy in
Washington,
D.C.Other sailors can be heard yelling unintelligibly after
Modly accused
Crozier of committing a “betrayal” of the sailors on board his ship. Video footage released last week showed sailors aboard the
USS Theodore Roosevelt giving
Crozier hearty cheers after he was removed from his post.
Military vets say Trump’s acting Navy Secretary ‘spit on their service’ with attack on fired Captain (
Raw Storylink): Some of the sailors aboard the
USS Theodore Roosevelt weren’t the only people with military ties to be upset by acting
Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly’s speech denouncing
Capt. Brett Crozier.
Modly, who ordered
Crozier’s dismissal last week after he wrote a memo detailing the dire
COVID-19-related situation aboard the
USS Theodore Roosevelt that subsequently leaked to the meda, drew jeers from the ship’s crew after he called
Crozier“stupid” and accused him of committing “betrayal.”
In addition to the sailors, several veterans took to
Twitter to denounce
Modly’s attacks on a man who received fervent cheers from his crew members as he departed the ship after being fired.
“Let me tell you how big this speech on the
TR is in the military/veterans community,” wrote
Iraq War veteran
Fred Wellman. “
The Daily Caller first broke the transcript and no I’m seeing veterans of both political parties outraged like nothing I’ve seen… well… ever.
Modly’s behavior on the
TR spits on their service.”
Lawmakers call for removal of Navy Secretary over USS Roosevelt debacle (
Task & Purpose link): Multiple lawmakers called for
Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly to resign or be fired after a massive backlash to
Modly’s decision to relieve
Capt. Brett Crozier, commander of the aircraft carrier
USS Theodore Roosevelt, after the latter urged his superiors to evacuate the ship for fear of novel coronavirus (
COVID-19) spreading throughout his crew. Lawmakers levied their calls against
Modly on Monday after
Task & Purpose published leaked audio of the service's top civilian using a speech to
Roosevelt sailors regarding
Crozier's departure to lash out at the captain over the leak of his now-infamous letter to his superiors.
The leaked audio and transcript of speech prompted lawmakers, already on edge over the abrupt removal of
Crozier from the helm of the
Roosevelt, to demand
Modly resign or be removed from his position by
Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.
Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.), a former
Navy surface warfare officer, issued a statement on Monday calling for
Esper to fire
Modly.
Roosevelt sailors "are on the frontlines of this pandemic and of our nation’s defense in the
Pacific,”
Luria said in a statement. “
Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly’s remarks to the crew show that he is in no way fit to lead our
Navy through this trying time.
Secretary Esper should immediately fire him.”
Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) joined in the condemnation of
Modly. “The acting
Navy Secretary is unfit for office,” he tweeted on Monday. “He should resign or be removed immediately.”
