Mod: Sorry Berners, but I just don't trust the guy. Never did. IMHO recent events show there are more than enough good reasons for that. Just so you know, what I am really hoping for is a deadlocked Democratic convention, and as a compromise to all they draft Adam Schiff for President. He is the one guy Donald Trump fears the most.

Bernie Sanders Knew For A Month That Russia Was Helping His Campaign, But Said Nothing (PoliticusUSAlink): Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has known for a month that Russia was trying to help his presidential campaign, but didn’t speak out until it went public.

The Washington Post reported:

U.S. officials have told Sen. Bernie Sanders that Russia is attempting to help his presidential campaign as part of an effort to interfere with the Democratic contest, according to people familiar with the matter.

This is not in the same universe as Trump openly conspiring with and covering for Russian election interference, but Sen. Sanders could have mitigated a lot of damage that he may suffer if he would have sounded the alarm as soon as he was briefed on this threat.

Not saying anything lends the appearance that Sen. Sanders was going to keep his mouth shut and accept the Russian interference if it got him the nomination.

The Russians are trying to pick the Democratic nominee to give Trump the easiest path possible to reelection.

Lawmakers Are Warned That Russia Is Meddling to Re-elect Trump (The New York Times link): Intelligence officials warned House lawmakers last week that Russia was interfering in the 2020 campaign to try to get President Trump re-elected, five people familiar with the matter said, a disclosure to Congress that angered Mr. Trump, who complained that Democrats would use it against him.

The day after the Feb. 13 briefing to lawmakers, the president berated Joseph Maguire, the outgoing acting director of national intelligence, for allowing it to take place, people familiar with the exchange said. Mr. Trump was particularly irritated that Representative Adam B. Schiff, Democrat of California and the leader of the impeachment proceedings, was at the briefing.

In a tweet on Thursday evening, Mr. Schiff said that it appeared that Mr. Trump was “again jeopardizing our efforts to stop foreign meddling” with his objections to the briefing.

Mr. Trump complained that Mr. Schiff would “weaponize” the intelligence about Russia’s support for him, according to a person familiar with the briefing. And he was angry that he was not told right away about the briefing, the person said.
