Poll: Support for Trump impeachment rises 6 points (The Hilllink): Support for impeaching President Trump has risen 6 points, led by an increase in support among independents and Republicans, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. The survey, which was released Monday afternoon, found that 47 percent of Americans support impeaching Trump and removing him from the White House. The figure represents a 6-point increase from a similar poll in May and matches the high point in CNN's polling on impeachment.

A September 2018 survey from the news network also found 47 percent of Americans in favor of impeachment.

Meanwhile, 45 percent of respondents said they do not support impeaching and removing Trump from office, a 9-point decrease from the May survey. Eight percent said they do not have an opinion on the matter.

The increase in support stems from shifting opinions among independents and Republicans. The new survey found that 46 percent of independent respondents and 14 percent of Republican respondents support impeaching and removing Trump from office.

The figures represent an 11-point uptick among independents and an 8-point increase among Republicans compared to a similar CNN poll from May.

The rising support for impeachment comes as House Democrats have launched an impeachment inquiry against Trump over a whistleblower's allegations that the president pressured Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.

A slew of recent public opinion polls have shown an increase in support for impeachment.
