Poll: 4 in 10 support impeaching Trump (The Hilllink): Forty percent of registered voters support impeaching President Trump, according to a poll released Thursday by Public Policy Polling (PPP). Nearly half of voters, 48 percent, are opposed to impeaching Trump, and 12 percent remain unsure, according to the poll.
Pollsters also found that a majority of voters, 52 percent, would prefer former President Obama in his old role rather than Trump; 43 percent prefer Trump, and 5 percent are uncertain.
“Usually a newly elected president is at the peak of their popularity and enjoying their honeymoon after taking office,” PPP President Dean Debnam said in a statement. “But Donald Trump’s making history once again with a sizable share of voters already wanting to impeach him, and a majority of voters wishing they could have Barack Obama back.”
PPP polling found that 49 percent of voters disapprove of Trump’s performance since his inauguration on Jan. 20 and 47 percent approve.
Overall impressions of Trump remain negative, according to the poll, with 52 percent viewing him unfavorably and 45 percent viewing him favorably.
Mod: I am sure there are some who are ideologically opposed to Donald Trump. But from conversations I've had with people over the last couple of weeks it looks like a large portion of that 40% supporting impeachment just find Trump to be really scary. Plus some of the people he has surrounded himself with are just not quite on the level. Or even sane. The following being a good example of that.
Kellyanne Conway made up a fake terrorist attack to justify Trump’s “Muslim ban” (Vox link): In an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews that aired on Thursday night, Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway managed to get two huge things wrong in a short, 19-second answer. First, she said that the Obama administration banned Iraqi refugees from entering in the United States for six months in 2011 — which is flatly untrue.
Second, and more significantly, she made up a terrorist attack committed by Iraqi refugees that never happened — the “Bowling Green Massacre.”
Joe Sonka is, to be clear, 100 percent correct about this. There has never been a terrorist attack in Bowling Green, Kentucky committed by Iraqi refugees.
Conway claims that “most people don't know that because it didn't get covered.” Most people don’t know about it because it didn’t happen.
Mod: Outside of this blog's famous "Trump Guy," I am not sure people are all that impressed by wholesale lying like that. You have to wonder why people like Kellyanne Conway believe they can just make up imaginary terrorist attacks out of thin air, and then use those fantasies to justify controversial policy positions that involve the lives of millions of people. It just doesn't make a lot of sense. Kind of nuts, actually.
