Tonight's Planning Commission Meeting Deals With The "Group Living Facility" (AKA Sober House) Issue

Here is how the Staff Report is summarized on the City of Sierra Madre website (link).

The full Agenda Report can be accessedhere.

Group Living Facilities vs. Sober Homes The official City Hall term is "Group Living Facilities" because they would never say something so unfortunate as "junkie housing." Perhaps "Sober Living Homes" might be a little too risky as well, though the term is used in tonight's PlanningCommission staff report.

Even when this terminology is being used to describe an industry whose sole purpose appears to be cleaning out whatever money is available in an addicted patient's insurance portfolio before sending them off on their merry way. Cured or no. Which I suppose makes them little different from a lot of other health care genres.

In the never-never land of state and national patients' rights legislation inappropriate language could come back to haunt a small city in the form of substantial lawsuits and other penalties, so you need to keep a civil bureaucratic tongue in your head. Something Sierra Madre's local government agency does excel at these days.

When they get around to it.

What's up with City Hall posting meeting videos?
Are they doing it anymore? I know the city has a recently redesigned and quite expensive website that was supposed to be able to handle things like meeting videos, but there hasn't been a Planning Commission video posted there since sometime last November.

It is not like these videos don't exist, either. Here is the December 15 meeting video, which has been available on YouTube since, well, December 15

The November 17 (link) and December 1st (link) Planning Commission meetings can be found on YouTube as well. And that service doesn't cost the city anything, which is a lot less than you are paying to have City Hall not post them.

Livestream this evening's Planning Commission meeting tonight at 7PM
As a community service I will be posting the YouTube link to tonight's meeting here just before it starts. YouTube does a great job, and you can even do things like review earlier segments of the meeting while the rest of it is still going on.

Or you could wait until the city posts the video in, maybe March? You know how busy they are.
