The Nostradamus Predictions To Heed In 2017 Following the 2016 U.S. presidential election, many began to talk of the Nostradamus predictions and their validity in the wake of Donald Trump’s win. French physician and astrologer Michel de Nostradamus had penned a verse prophesying what some believers consider to be a forecast of the 2016 presidential election.
History.com’s translation tells of the “The masculine woman” who would “exert herself to the north,” and also of “The great shameless, audacious bawler, / He will be elected governor of the army: / The boldness of his contention, / The bridge broken, the faint from fear.”
Nostradamus was born in 1503 and has since been credited, centuries later, for predicting some of the world’s most poignant and devastating events. The astrologer was said to have accurately predicted the French Revolution, Adolf Hitler’s ultimate rise to power and even the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to History.com.
Nostradamus eventually began to write his visions and penned almanacs devoted to his predictions of the future. Ten volumes were produced, each one containing 100 predictions that would foretell events throughout the next 2,000 years (he predicted the world would end in 3797). The prophecies he published under “Les Prophesies,” were each written in four-line verses, or quatrains.
As the New Year has approached, believers in the Nostradamus predictions have advised of his forecasts might hold some truth in the coming year.
Instability for the United States is one prediction believers have determined, according to News.com.au. The country could become more “ungovernable” under the Trump administration. One translated verse reads, “The false trumpet concealing madness will cause Byzantium to change its laws. From Egypt there will go forth a man who wants to edict withdrawn, changing money and standards,” which could be a reference to Trump’s potentially disastrous interference in European and foreign policy.
Other predictions include one where the astrologer forecast peace between Russia and Ukraine and that China may “make bold moves to cure the ‘economic imbalance,’” according to Daily Express.
Tough economic times for Italy were also predicted, as well as the prospect of a surmounting matter referred to as the “Hot Wars.” Some have taken this to refer to climate change and global warming.

Pope: 2017 Will Be Good If People Do Good; Decries Terrorism (ABC Newslink): Pope Francis in his New Year's greetings Sunday declared 2017 will be good to the degree that people do good and reject hatred, as he prayed for those courageously dealing with terrorism gripping the world in "fear and bewilderment."
"The new year will be good in the measure in which each of us, with the help of God, tries to do good, day by day, that's how peace is created,"Francis told a crowd of 50,000 pilgrims, tourists and Romans gathered in St. Peter's Square for his noon blessing and New Year's Day remarks.
Francis advised people to "say no to hate and violence and yes to brotherhood and reconciliation." The Roman Catholic church dedicates the first day of the year to the theme of peace.
He also told those standing in the bitingly cold air that the new year had already begun badly.
"Unfortunately, violence has struck even on this night of well-wishes and hope," he said, referring to the attack on an Istanbul nightclub filled with New Year's revelers early Sunday that left 39 dead and dozens wounded.
"In sorrow, I express my closeness to the Turkish people, I pray for the numerous victims and wounded, and for all the nation in mourning,"Francis said.
He then prayed that God will sustain "all men of goodwill who courageously roll up their sleeves to deal with the plague of terrorism and this bloodstain which is gripping the world in a shadow of fear and bewilderment."
Earlier, during his homily during New Year's Day Mass in St. Peter's Basilica, Francis lamented "narcissist hearts" in societies becoming "cold and calculating."
"The loss of the ties that bind us, so typical of our fragmented and divided culture, increases this sense of orphanhood and, as a result, of great emptiness and loneliness. The lack of physical, and not virtual, contact is cauterizing our hearts and making us lose the capacity for tenderness and wonder, for pity and compassion,"Francis said.
Francis says humility and tenderness are signs of strength, not weakness.
2017 Rose Parade Set to Make its Way Through Pasadena (NBC Southern Californialink): With the theme "Echoes of Success" and led by a trio of Olympians, the 128th annual Rose Parade will make its way along Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena on Monday, amid heightened security that has become a fixture along the procession's 5 and a half mile route.
Pasadena police will be joined in their security efforts by agencies including the U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Despite the large police presence, "It is equally important for the public to know that you serve a vital role in the success of this plan, whether you are attending these events or not," said Rob Savage, the special agent in charge of the Secret Service's Los Angeles field office.
Bomb-sniffing dogs, a "no drone zone" and barricades blocking vehicle traffic from entering the parade route at its 56 intersections are all part of the security plan.
Officials also have undertaken efforts to thwart any attack on the parade using a truck as a ramming tool, as has happened in France and Germany during the past year.
Water barricades will be used to prevent any vehicle from being able to travel at high speeds leading up to the parade route. Police have learned through the France and Germany truck attacks that when terrorists "use vehicles as a ramming tool, typically it is because they are able to generate a lot of speed. So we are trying to take the speed out of that equation,"Pasadena Police Department Chief Phillip L. Sanchez said.
Mod: There will also be floats with flowers and marching bands.

Armed with four tarpaulins, a prankster had climbed Mount Lee under the cover of night to edit the iconic landmark, which was changed to "HOLLYWeeD.” Security footage recorded at 3 a.m. Sunday showed a “lone individual” climbing up the mountain, scaling the sign’s ladders and hanging tarpaulins over the O’s to change them to E's, said Sgt. Guy Juneau of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Security Services division.
It could have been a New Year’s Eve prank, Juneau said, or the work of “a thrill seeker.”
The surveillance footage showed a man dressed in black, tactical-style gear. One of the tarpaulins was decorated with a peace sign, and another with a heart. Because the sign was not damaged, the incident will be investigated as misdemeanor trespassing. The police have no suspects.
Some Angelenos joked that the alteration reflected California’s recent vote to legalize recreational marijuana. The New Year’s Day change is far from the first time the Hollywood sign has been edited by artists and pranksters.
The sign, erected in 1923 as an advertisement for a housing development, originally read “Hollywoodland.”
