If you prefer to watch City Council and Planning Commission meetings on-line, but have found that KGEM just isn't all that dependable a source, you now have an option. As an example, Thursday evening's get-together to discuss the Henry A. Darling House was not available live on the KGEM website. That site, despite claiming it carries such things, had no immediate link to that meeting, and those who depend upon KGEM to connect them with such important events were once again left in the lurch.
Fortunately there is an option, and it is one that I have been using for a while. You can now watch SMTV3Live Streams of any City Council or Planning Commission meeting on YouTube. As you will see if you click on the link I've provided above, you can view all four hours of last Thursday evening's confab should you so choose. And since this was a "Live Stream," it can be as immediate as watching a television broadcast, and it remains available on the site after the meeting is over in case you got home late like I did.
Remember when it sometimes took days for video replays of these meetings to get posted on KGEM? On YouTube they are always available live, and then stay on the site forever.
Another benefit is that you can decide which part of the meeting you want to see. Using the cursor at the bottom of the video stream, you can now view only those segments of a meeting you care to watch, even as the rest of that meeting is still going on. You can also have your own personal instant replays if you think you might have missed an important nuance or two.
Try doing that with your funky old television set. Kind of useful when you're really not sure if you want to wade through hours of sometimes not exactly scintillating content to get to what you actually want to see. You can skip to whatever you want.
What if you actually attended a meeting, and even spoke from the public comment podium while you were there? You can then pull out your laptop and instantly critique your performance. Or just admire your striking good looks, as so many who tune in often do.
I think it is the best way to catch Sierra Madre meetings. You watch whenever you want to watch, replay any segments anytime you wish, skip all of the annoying stuff, and always at your own convenience. And even though Thursday's Planning Commission meeting was not available live time on KGEM, it was on YouTube. And it is still there. You can watch it now.
You can even access YouTube Live Streams on your smart phone and watch wherever and whenever you like. Imagine enjoying an action packed live City Council meeting on your iPhone while downing a couple of cold ones at Lucky Baldwins. That would work, too. Sometimes you need a drink just to get through one of these things.
