Do The "YES" Campaign's Internal Polling Numbers Show That Measure UUT Is In Trouble With Voters Here?

We have not yet been able to get a look at what the Yes On Measure UUT's rumored internal polling looks like. That these folks have money enough to do polling at all is kind of astonishing if you think about it. After all, small suburban towns such as Sierra Madre can't normally supply the kinds of costly political capital needed to make such big city Pasadena-style campaign efforts fly.

Then again, this year we are talking about lots of Sierra Madre municipal employee union money, the Kensington, and donations made by various fine folks from this city's posh political class. People who enjoy telling others to do things they themselves would prefer to avoid. And one indication that things are not going as well as hoped for with the "Yes On Measure UUT" effort is Mayor Capoccia has now been spotted back on the streets, pounding the pavement and going door to door to try and convince people to vote themselves a 66% utility tax increase. Something the residents of this city refused to do in 2012 and 2014.

An alert "No On UUT" resident snapped the picture above yesterday afternoon. When asked what he was up to, Mayor Capoccia replied that he was out campaigning for Measure UUT. Upon being informed by our impromptu correspondent that she would be voting NO, the Mayor seemed characteristically irritated. "What is it you want to do," he grumped. "Bankrupt the city?"

Our informant replied "No," and that hiring the Sheriffs would help alleviate much of this city's debt woes while also removing the obligation to contribute millions of dollars we don't actually have to CalPERS. As you probably know, CalPERS unfunded debt in Sierra Madre is over $9 million dollars now, and growing mightily every month. It is one of the true driving forces behind the need to raise utility taxes by a full 66%.

The Tattler's correspondent continued: "Wouldn't getting future city employees on 401Ks help save Sierra Madre from possibly becoming insolvent?"

Capoccia's dyspeptic reply? "We can't ever do that." He then spun on his rubber heels and, flyers clenched purposefully in his fists, strode away.

This is kind of a revelation, or at least it was for me. After all, hasn't City Hall been saying for months now that new employees, such as all of those fresh cops Larry Giannone claims to be hiring, would not be getting unaffordable CalPERS retirement benefits? And instead would be set-up with 401Ks, just like all of us working stiffs in the private sector?

I guess that claim is no longer operative. Or so the Mayor made known yesterday. But who knows? It gets harder all the time to figure out what is really going on at City Hall.

H. Susan Henderson continues her struggles with the English language - and more!
As we have observed here before, the more angry Ms. Harriett Susan Poole-Henderson-Carter gets, the worse her grammar and spelling. And judging by her wholesale slaughter of the English language in the following article, Mountain Views News publisher H. Susan Etc-Etc-Etc. has once again popped the proverbial cork.

You could almost hear that happening here all the way from her new home in the City of Los Angeles. Check it out.


Something H. Susan neglected to include in her article (along with a large amount of pertinent legal detail we'll leave for the FPPC to ponder), is she was actually a member of a failed triumvirate that lead the effort to raise utility taxes here in 2014. And while H. Susan escaped being mentioned in the FPPC complaint because she didn't actually sign any of the offending paperwork, she was right there in the thick of things with Mayor Nancy Walsh and Ms. Amy Putman, Professor of Accounting.

In case you are not aware, Professor Amy Putnam is today the Treasurer for the 2016 "Yes On Measure UUT" campaign.

All of the loopy grammatical blunders and misspellings aside ("Tennesee?"), what really piqued my interest was her reference to the term "trolling." I honestly had no idea what she meant by "an internet practice of anti-social behavior causing interpersonal and shock value controversy." As far as I could tell she might have been describing any weekly on-line edition of the Mountain Views News, especially around election time.

I followed the provided link back to the article Harriett-Susan-Poole-Carter-Henderson referenced, and much to my amazement it was actually something about those naked Facebook photos of Noah Green we posted on The Tattler way back in March of 2014. Henderson, who was the campaign manager for poor Noah that year, somehow neglected to tell him that if you leave naked pictures of yourself up on a Facebook page, it could cost you an election. Which in this case it most certainly did.

Why H. Susan would want bring that exciting episode back into the political mix now is beyond me. After all, she actually lost two campaigns that year. The aforementioned 2014 UUT measure, and the one that featured Naked Noah and his unfortunate though celebrated wardrobe malfunctions.
