The City Manager of Bradbury Stands Up for Measure UUT

It is interesting to see who is standing up for Measure UUT. They apparently come from all parts. Not only do these folks have a dude from Pasadena running their campaign for them, but now they can also claim some rather off-center support from the emotionally misinformed tweeting of Michelle Keith, the City Manager of Bradbury.

Check out this irony challenged twittering from Los Angeles:

Michelle Keith is the City Manager of Bradbury, which is a place you don't hear about too often. Mostly because it has a population of 845 people and only 4 city employees. Which doesn't seem like a whole lot to me. Hopefully they get along.

Link here.

Of course, part of the reason why the frugal City of Bradbury has only 4 employees is because they don't have their own Police Department. Instead they are saving a whole boatload of nuisance expense and bother by contracting with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Go figure, right? Here's a screenshot that establishes the Bradbury/LASD connection (link).

Michelle Keith, thanks so much for playing!

Cost per resident, Sheriff towns versus Sierra Madre

Here are a few comparisons, courtesy of Transparent California (link), that help to establish that Sierra Madre's constant need for more cash stems from its ravenous (though currently lightly staffed) daytime only Police Department. The first three screenshots are Sheriff towns, the last is Sierra Madre. The number you want to look for here is "total city employee compensation cost per resident." The differences are significant.

Despite all of the emotionally fraught hankie wringing from a certain other locale City Manager, it really is all about public safety costs. If Sierra Madre had contracted with the Sheriffs back around the time communities like Bradbury did, we wouldn't be having this conversation today.

And isn't it odd that La Canada Flintridge, a city with nearly twice the population of Sierra Madre, has less than half the number of full-time employees?

As far as Bradbury goes, it's not like they are hurting for the money. There they have obviously chosen to keep their local government costs down.

You really do need to wonder what the City of Bradbury, which is run by Michelle Keith, knows that Sierra Madre does not.
